A paralyzed man can now stand unaided thanks to a breakthrough stem cell therapy. In a pioneering clinical trial, Japanese scientists have received the green light to use reprogrammed stem cells to treat spinal cord injuries in humans for the first time. Led by Dr. Hideyuki Okano of Keio University, the team will inject induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells adult cells genetically reprogrammed to an embryonic-like state into patients soon after injury. These iPS cells are converted into neural pr
