NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory is expected to meet its fiery end early Wednesday morning nearly 22 years after its launch to study the most powerful explosions in the universe.

NASA's Swift Observatory is about to make a fiery reentry through Earth's atmosphere after a private mission to save it failed. Most of the spacecraft will burn up in orbit.

Most of the spacecraft will burn up as it reenters Earth’s atmosphere. Some of the bigger, heavier pieces, however, are expected to survive all the way to the surface on its reentry.

Nasa's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory has spent 22 years observing some of Space's most dramatic events, now its mission has ended.
