Freezing rain led to icy road surfaces in parts of central Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 7, as the National Weather Service warned of slick travel conditions during the morning commute.This footage from X user @Chris121710 shows an ice-covered road in Worcester on Wednesday morning.
Any light snow and freezing rain tapers off during the morning, with drier and milder weather building in this afternoon with highs in the 30s by the evening commute.
The National Weather Service extended its winter weather advisory to 6 p.m. Central. Look for light snow as temperatures fall below freezing. Precipitation turns over to snow this evening. A snowstorm is possible later this week.
Today will be a seasonably chilly but quiet day. Highs will be in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. It’ll be the “pick day” of the weekend. Our next system moves in Sunday bringing widespread rain, heavy at times.
