"I recently stayed at this cabin, and one of our guests posted a very honest review of it. The host has responded with dishonest statements and downright lies, and I don't see where it's possible to respond to her statements. So, I'd like to set the record straight:\n \n1. We did not have "minor, generalized" complaints. We had legitimate safety and health concerns. Used bandaids on blankets? You bet! Mysterious crusty substance on clearly unwashed blankets? Check. (Was it food? Lube? Bodily fluids? You decide! And if they can't even be bothered to wash the blankets, can you imagine what else they're not cleaning?) 2 total smoke detectors in the entire 18-person lodge? Yep! And I have the photos to prove it. I'm very glad the host was able install more smoke detectors and replace the dusty, undated, likely non-functional fire extinguisher before she finally allowed the fire marshall to inspect her cabin. \n2. Our group didn't create a mess whatsoever. We cleaned everything as instructed before we left, including turning off all of the (working) appliances, turning off the lights, sweeping the floors, taking out the trash, and putting all towels and linens in the bathrooms, and again, I have the photos to prove it.\n3. Yes, we had an accident with the grill. The flames got a little too high, so we closed the lid (which is exactly what you're SUPPOSED to do to prevent it from getting bigger). She then said she would charge us for the soot that was left on the grill from this. Soot? On a grill? Are you serious? Sounds more like retaliation to me. \n4. The host was aware of the number and age of everyone single person who stayed in the cabin. She requires the full names and birthdays of every guest at the time of reservation (so she can put them on her illegal do-not-rent list when they do anything other than thank her for her rudeness, apparently!), and I provided them. Also, there is no policy that guests must be over 30 to stay there. There is a clause in the CONFIRMATION EMAIL that says all guests over 30 years old must provide their IDs, but because all of our guests were between 23 and 28, this didn't apply to us. Again, I have the emails to prove it. I booked our stay with the number of people that had confirmed they were coming at the time of the booking, and I informed the host by email that more people might be coming, with the expectation that we would figure out final payment at the time of check out.\n5. Yes, I did apologize for the (minor!) damage to the grill and losing my temper in our texts, because I'm (gasp!) trying to be a decent person and do the right thing. My apology for my temper doesn't negate the very real issues we had with our stay.\n6. I can understand that the host may have been taken advantage of in the past by people hoping to get a cheap vacation. That is definitely not was this situation was about. My friends and I have full-time jobs that allow us to afford fun vacations from time to time, and we believe in paying people for their service. However, this cabin was not what it was advertised to be, and we felt (and still feel) completely justified in asking for a partial refund for the false advertising and rude treatment we received. I understand the host may not be able to afford this because it is a small business, but if she can't afford a property manager and a good housekeeper to run it properly, she probably shouldn't be in this business to begin with. \n\nAre these all first world problems? Sure. Did she suggest solutions that helped? Of course. Were we still happy to see our friends and be in Hocking Hills? Yes. But was it gross and super stressful at times instead of fun and relaxing? 100%.\n\nIt must be very convenient to be able to write people off as "entitled kids" instead of dealing with their concerns. Avoid this rental at all costs."

"I can't even give this place any reviews because I've been trying to contact the business owner. I was trying to host a family reunion here, but the man however, is very rude. I've been contacting him and he keeps text messaging me instead of calling me back on the phone like a regular professional does !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\nI have had so many questions for him but he is not professional. He keeps texting me instead of calling! if you'd like to speak to the people at the reservation for the sunset view lodge for any thing ( YOU WON'T !!!!) if you dial the number 7403389998 you will never hear from nobody but text messages. He is very rude. He doesn't do anything but text if you ask him to give you a call back because you would like to discuss it over the phone his rude ass won't call you back. This is not the type of place. I wanna do business with if I can't talk to you over the phone you keep texting messaging me. Why would I wanna do business with you, so I'm glad that you kept texting and getting smart with me and your text messages because I am not giving up $6000 for the heck of it!"
